DIY Family Photo Collage

Family photos have been high on my priority list this year.  The monthly family portrait challenge has been great, but sometimes it's fun to spice things up a little.  Teaming up with Canon USA, I decided making a family portrait collage was just what the doctor ordered.

Supplies:
*family photos
*colorful scrap paper
*glue
*poster paper to glue all your pieces to

To begin, I printed out some silly family photos on our Canon PIXMA MG7120 and cut them out.

Hope had a lot of fun helping me with this project!  We began assembling the collage by cutting out grass for the bottom and a pink car that we turned into an ice cream truck.

We originally had a hand drawn ice cream cone background, but ultimately ended up switching to just a plain blue background.  It helped the black and white photos really pop!

This is what the collage looked like all laid out.  Whenever I make these, I like to glue as few pieces down as possible.  It gives the collage a more 3-D look.  I snapped a photo of the collage with my camera and loaded the collage into Photoshop for some final touches.  If you don't have Photoshop, that's totally fine!  You can do the entire collage just by cutting and pasting!  Here is my final product:

After I was satisfied with the my collage, I printed it out using the same PIXMA MG7120 printer and popped it into a frame!  I think this is such a fun spin on a traditional family photo.  I love the bright colors in our living room.  It's already gotten a lot of attention from guests!

What do you think?  Is this something you could see in your home?  It's definitely a cheerful corner in our space!  Happy crafting!  xo.

  4. The only family portrait hanging in our home is a picture I drew of us to tuck into my daughter's lunch kit to cheer her up. She loved it so much I decided we would frame it. :) This is a perfect craft for the look of our home. Thanks, Katie.

  8. I was too busy loving the photos that I may've skipped over this part in what you wrote BUT: it looks like you guys took your photos with the idea of creating this collage in mind opposed to having a family photo taken and then deciding "Oh, let's make a collage!". That, or else you guys must walk around pretending to have something in your hand the whole time ;)

Did you already have this idea in mind going into the photo-taking sesh?
