Vintage Swing Project

Vintage Swing Project
If you guys know one thing about me, it's that I love taking things that are worn or broken or ill-fitting and giving them a second life. My obsession with the plant clearance isle is proof of that. 😂 I recently had the bitter-sweet privilege of shopping my dear friend Rachel's yard/moving sale. I nabbed a bunch of great fabric and some vintage home decor (not that much because let's be honest... I'm bursting at the seams a little), but my excitement came from this old, beat-up rattan hanging chair. She told me she got it off the side of the road in a sea-salty town, and the wood really showed it. The seems were coming apart and the chair was brittle. Here's what I did to bring her back to life:

The two main things I used to revitalize the chair were this SunShield Wood Conditioner and leather cord. The SunShield was to condition the wood and hopefully allow some moisture to soak back in, and I used the leather cord to tie the unraveled spots on the chair back together.

This is the state of the wood as I was applying the conditioner. You can see the color difference in the photo, but what you can't see is how this dried out chair just sopped it up. It was pretty impressive.

Oh, and I did hang the chair before I started applying the conditioner because bending over for hours to condition the chair just seemed like a project I would never finish. These swing ties are hanging three of our swings now and holding up nicely.

After I used a cloth to rub all of the conditioner into the wood (don't be fooled by tidy DIY posts, this took two days), I used the leather to tie the joints back together. Honestly, it ended up creating a pretty cool look with the rattan and the leather. I'm into it.

I did, however, give myself many, many blisters the day before our band played 3 shows in two days. "And here we have ol' blister-fingers on the piano. Clap for her." 😳

My goal for this patio when we finally get it finished is a cozy boho vibe. We have ivy hanging down from the trees overhead, so this cushion cover I found on Amazon was pretty perfect.

One day when our fence is up (hopefully by the end of the summer) and we can put more furniture out, it will be so fun to have friends over to chat and relax in this setting. It's so dreamy at night already... I'm a little bit obsessed.

Weekly Wears: Vintage Scores

Weekly Wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears
Happy Halloween, friends!  I can't believe it's already here!  The girls are pumped for trick-or-treating tonight and I'm pulling out my warmest clothes because it's supposed to be pretty chilly.  Oh yeah, and I'm throwing chili in the crockpot so I can come home to warm comfort food.

Shirt: vintage from Maude Vintage // Dress: Whurl // Bow brooch: Color Theory // Shoes: Bali ELF

This outfit has nothing to do with spooky, scary things, but whatever.  I'm sure tonight I'll find something to fit the theme for tonight.  If you guys know of any great Halloween playlists, please leave me a link!  I'm ready to celebrate!

Vintage Pretties

I have some vintage goodies over on the ShopWhurl app right now!  I've been meaning to clear more out of my closet for some time and this is a great way to buy and sell vintage!  Actually, the app is kind of addicting and I've been buying more clothes than maybe I should.  Ha!  I guess that's the cycle.  ðŸ˜‰   Purge a little... buy a little...

Have a peep and see if there's anything you can't live without!  I'm in the process of redoing my clothing/craft room, so getting as much out of there as possible is ideal!  Happy shopping!

**Oh, and I'm pretty sure the app doesn't work for Android--sorry, guys.

Etsy Love

It's been quite a while since my last Etsy Love post!  I've recently been re-bitten by the vintage bug, and I've found myself on Etsy quite a bit more these days.  Here are some of my current favorites!

This vintage dress from The Kissing Tree is so similar to the yellow one I just thrifted.  It's so classy and airy!

How darling is this porcelain ring from Misako Mimoko?  I wouldn't be able to take it out of the packaging!

These prints from Depeapa are so perfectly sweet and simple!  They would look great in so many parts of my house!

This necklace from Opal and Gold would work with almost anything!  I'm in love!

I need to add this Nasty Woman patch from Sweet and Lovely to my denim jacket.  Pronto!

What are some of your favorite Etsy shops right now?  I'm especially in the market for art for my bedroom and pretty vintage finds!  Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

Weekly Wears: Penny Lane Vibes

weekly wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears
I thrifted this last summer and it's finally cold enough to wear it!  I almost passed on it because the coat hung below my knees and almost swallowed me, but decided to get it anyway.  With much hesitation, I took my scissors to the suede and came out with a piece of clothing I really love!  Whew.

Coat: vintage // Sweater and Jeans: Free People // Boots: vintage // Gold choker: Nasty Gal // Purse: PS I Adore You // Tear pins: The Crybaby Club

Johnny, myself, and a couple of our pals just scored Radiohead tickets today and I'm pumped!  I swore off arena shows years ago, but sometimes it's necessary to break your own rules!

Happy Friday, friends!

Birthday Snow

Winter Wonderland Winter Wonderland  Winter Wonderland Winter Wonderland Winter Wonderland
Well... today is one of my very favorite days of the year.  It's my birthday!!  I get so excited every year that we have snow on my birthday.  Snow is my absolute favorite.  Weirdly, it motivates me. There's nothing better than snow day crafting.  Really!

2016 was a good year for me.  I grew closer to people that I truly love, really made our house feel like home, and traveled to new places.  Did I complete all of the goals I set?  Of course not.  And that's okay!  It's time to make some new ones, roll some over from last year, and get moving.  I'm excited for 2017 and the things I have cooking in this ol' brain of mine.  Happy Friday, January 6th, friends.  I'm off to go eat cake and snuggle my family.  Oh yeah... and grab drinks and do karaoke with friends later!

**Since this is my first outfit post in forever, here are my details:

Dress: vintage;  Tights: We Love Colors;  Shoes: Bali Elf;  Clutch: Modcloth (similar)

Weekly Wears: Firefly Season

Weekly Wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears Weekly Wears
We're officially to that point in the year where fireflies take over the yard at dusk!  It's honestly one of the most magical and peaceful scenes to watch Poesy take off around the yard squealing and giggling as she tries to play a game of catch and release with them.  Summertime has us on the go a bit more than usual, but I've been trying to be deliberate about being home during the evenings.  I want to soak this up as long as I can.

Dress & Purse: vintage;  Clogs (which you can't really see): Lotta From Stockholm

I found this dress on eBay right before we left for Palm Springs and it's definitely a go-to right now.  It's comfy and lovely... and sundresses are basically my favorite thing to wear because you don't have to put a ton of thought into layers and separates.  I think I just let my lazy show.  Oh well... happy Tuesday, friends!  xo.

Winter Light

Winter Light Winter Light Winter Light Winter Light Winter Light
This is possibly the dreamiest dress I've ever put on my body.  I borrowed it from my darling, Gowa, the night we went to the Ryman Auditorium to see Jenny Lewis.  It was the most amazing show I've ever been to and I felt like a floating angel.  A memory I will hold tightly, for sure.  They don't make dresses like they used to.

Dress: vintage;  Shoes: Swedish Hasbeens

I hope your days are filled with ethereal winter light, friends.  xo.
