Clog Restyle

I've had these natural leather clogs for some time and haven't really put them to good use.  When I first got them, Lotta told me that if you rub the leather down with olive oil it will change the color.  It took me a while to do this because I thought I might enjoy having a pair in the lighter color.  Even though it's really pretty, I haven't worn these lovely clogs the way I should.  So, I decided it was time to give them a makeover.  :)

I began by rubbing them down with olive oil.  Here, you can see the color difference.  After I got them totally oiled, I decided to use gold paint to add polka dots to the heels.  I've been really digging the striped and floral heels I've seen around this season-- patterned heels make regular shoes double cute, if you ask me.  :)

I made the dots by dipping a cap in the paint to make the outline and then I filled the circles in with a paint brush. This method worked really well since a lot of the circles had to painted on free-handed in the trickier spots.

I can't say much for the wear and tear of the dots on the heels, since I haven't gotten to wear them extensively, but so far the dots are staying on perfectly.  The paint I used is great for pretty much anything.

I've been wearing them a ton since I restyled them.  I love taking something in my closet that isn't being used and turning it into something I love!

  1. These are beautiful, I love the polka dots! I think I have an old pair of clogs at my parent's so I may have to give them a revamp now!

  9. Great! See, I have exactly same shoes here http://oimutsimutsi.bellablogit.fi/2012/09/14/puukkarit/ and I wondered that they are a little bit too light for me. I didn't knew about olive oil trick, so I have to try it tomorrow! Thanks a lot to you and to Lotta also!

  11. Hey, great idea! Golden polka dots on heels that's really lovely. Must think about where I could add golden polka dots. On a bag? On a skirt with paint for fabrics? On an umbrella? Crocheted golden circles on a cardigan? Let's try!

  19. Those are super cute, Katie! What kind of paint did you use? I've been wanting to paint on shoes, but not sure what kind of paint would be durable enough. I might try the Martha Stewart stuff and see how that works.

  21. OF COURSE you painted your wooden clogs-so creative:)

Oh my gosh, how cute would it be if you found a similar looking kid's shoe and painted a matching pair for Poe? Mother/Daughter outfit post!

  24. Wow!That is a great makeover of your clogs. They look even better in this shade of gold. Swedish wooden clogs just take my breath away, whenever i see a nice pair I want to buy them. I guess its just that they are so comfortable and stylish as well.
