Our Costa Rica Getaway Pt. 1

I'm finally ready to share some of our photos from Costa Rica!  I didn't think I had taken very many photos on our vacation, but once I got home and started sorting through, I realized I was wrong!  I'm glad because these photos will be treasures one day.

We had so much great food while on vacation.  I don't know about you, but one of our very favorite things about traveling is all the delicious food you get to try.  There were so many good (and diverse) restaurants.  I basically ate fresh fish and guacamole for every meal (except for the 2 sushi nights-- I had ramen!) and it was heavenly.  You don't find much fresh fish here in the Midwest... it's too risky for me to even try.  Oh, and I finally came to terms with the fact that I just don't love sangria.  No matter how many times I order a sangria, I just never really enjoy it.  They are so pretty, though!  ;)

This photo (and the one above) is so telling of how hard Johnny plays.  He isn't a super expressive dude- when he gets a gift he rarely jumps around or squeals.  He's always appreciative, of course, just not outwardly excitable.  It's not his personality.  Put this kid in the ocean and he turns into a child.  Like, loud belly laughs, rolling around in the sand, having the time of his life kind of stuff.  It's really cute.  He's kinda like that with wiffle ball, too.  Just a kid at heart.

One day while Johnny and I were grabbing a bite with Jeremy and Elsie, this large white rabbit appeared out of nowhere!  It was beautiful and so pristinely white, even while hopping through the mucky mud.  It was in someone's yard, but after hearing me freak out about the bunny, a man invited me over to get closer and snap a picture.  As I was creeping up on the bunny, it just hopped right over to me!  I could've reached down and touched it!  It was special.  I probably sound crazy right now, but it really was.

We had a couple of excursions while in Costa Rica, but my main goal was relaxing.  I didn't want a rigid schedule of activities, just a laid back "what do you want to do today" type vacation.  I had to snicker a little while we were there-- so many people on IG saying how we were "doing vacation wrong" and things like that.  So silly.  I don't see anything wrong with hanging out on the beach and being mellow.  Vacation is a different thing for everyone and our vacation was just my pace.  I loved it.

You can read more about our rental house and see more snaps from the vacation on A Beautiful Mess!  I'll be back with a part 2, in case you want to see more!  xo.

My pink swim top is from ASOS, my blue bandeau top and navy ruched bottoms are from Urban Outfitters, my denim swim bottoms are from ModCloth, and my gingham suit is from Anthropologie.

  7. That is how we do vacation as well. We like taking it slow and lazy. I'm not a huge fan of sangria but I love this version http://www.food.com/recipe/copycat-applebees-peach-sangria-270393. You might like it if you like peaches.

  17. WHAT?! Doing vacation wrong?? No way, that's the whole point of vacation!

Your photos are so good! I love seeing all the snapshots you guys took. That white dress on you is so gorgeous! When I was in Ireland, I for some reason was so amused by this cow mooing that I made a video and the whole background noise is me cracking up - so I totally get your obsession with the bunny :)

  18. Personally, I am also more the 'travel around' kind of person, who cannot just sit on a beach, but has to see every little thing... however, I won't judge anybody who is more into a relaxing vacation. To each their own, right?

That being said: STOP with those magical 'horse in the water' pictures already. Did you go to Costa Rica or Wonderland? (obvioulsy, that was a joke. Never stop. Show me all those magical horse photos!)

  43. Yes, it's silly that anyone else judged your vacation. I am very much a "no plans" traveler, especially in a place like Costa Rica. Life is so busy and consuming, that sometimes you just need some good food, good friends and the sound of the ocean.

I love vacations that are like that and I equally love vacations that are an entire trip dedicated to visiting museums and seeing monuments. You can't go wrong on vacation!

  47. Kathy, you look very happy and beautiful. This is my kind of vacations, and oh Lord I´m form Costa Rica!!! sadly for many of us, this paradise have some bad kind of "fama" for party hard and we're not like this, by living here my whole life there is a few places like Jaco Beach or Dominical, where I can't feel comfortable, became dangerous, too bad, but Malpais and Santa Teresa are full of perfect and calmy places, delicious food. For you next visit my recommendation for your family, it's visit more places, the country it's so tinny and it's not dangerous (the most of the places), there's only have a good advice where to visit. Near to Guanacaste are 2 volcanoes, and with almost 2 weeks and a rental car you can visit a bunch of dream places, I promise you :), oh don´t forget the South Pacific, my favorite place in the whole world. I have seen whales, dolphins and islands like mountains, pura vida Kathy, thanks for all the kind words about my little country.
