Weekly Wears: Circus Shoes

When I was a little girl I had high hopes of being two things.  The first one:  a professional rollerskater.   I would spend my summers rollerskating around my basement in my swimming suit (you know, the kind with the skirt that made you feel EXTRA fancy) and practice my acceptance speeches for the rewards I would be receiving.  Oh yes, there were MANY speeches.

The other thing I wanted to be as a little girl looking to the future was:  a hula hoop girl in the circus.  I would hula and hula and hoop and hoop all day (okay, probably just between snack times) in hopes that one day I would be the best in the world!  Hula hoops would twirl from my neck, arms, and legs all at once... while on fire!  And, of course I would have a magnificent, sparkly ensemble, and the shiniest red shoes!

Enter:  shiny red shoes.

And just for good measure, a close up of my beeeeeautiful rings:

Dress:  UO
Shiny Red Shoes:  borrowed from a friend
Bow:  found in shoe that was borrowed from a friend and attached
to my dress with a handy little safety pin
Tights:  Target (where else?)
Rings:  {1. vintage ET: thrifted}
{2. awesome bug: cookoorikoo (she makes THE BEST!)}
{3. vintage turquoise ring: my mom}
{4.  other ET ring: thrifted on a different occasion}

Okay, maybe I didn't need to spell out where all the rings were from, but how random is it to find two different ET rings at different places and different times?!  It's a thrifting miracle, I tell you!  Needless to say, I was pretty dern excited.

So now that I've shared my failed childhood dreams with you (don't feel bad, I'm pretty sure my childhood self would think this plush gig I've got going on is thumbs up), tell me:  what did you want to be when you were a wee one?   xoxo Katie

  6. When I was little all I ever wanted for years and years, so desperately, was to be an elven warrior when I grew up. I would do archery for hours, my whole room was done up in green like Mirkwood, and I would roam around my parents 80 acres dressed in brown and green with my silver "elf" hunting knife. It was more like a dull pocket knife. I would dream about it at night and daydream about it the whole time I was awake. Sometimes I fear I may still want it deeeep down, hahaha

  11. Did Elsie stick that little bow in the shoe as a surprise gift?! It strikes me as something she would do. I would love to have such a sweet and thoughtful friend.

    You look fantastic, PS.

  15. I wanted to be a Disney animator. At our fifth grade graduation we had to hold up a card saying what we wanted to be and my teacher and the homeroom moms asked me to change mine to be something "more normal...like maybe a veterinarian?" (all the girls wanted to be veterinarians). My parents went to the school and defended me and made them change my card back. now I’m studying to be an art teacher so that never happens to a kid again! I have the best parents ever. :) BTW You can still be a hula hoop star. I hoop and it's so much fun! Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82lez1GYyO0 ...awesome, right!? p.s. that’s not me hooping. i wish i was that good!!

  17. Umm.. E.T. Ring! Want! I always wanted to be an architect or interior designer. My dreams were dashed when I realized alot of math would be involved. I hated math. I am sort of an architect, I make my own miniatures and room scenes. It's quite addicting. I don't have to spend that much, or worry about math ;) I get to do this and be a mom to three, Score!

  18. Ohhhh love the red shoes!!! Hmmm... I always wanted to be a teacher or an architect, the latter because my father was. I used to draw blue prints of random businesses I would design - hair salons, houses, etc. Now, I'm a teacher! Though in funnier confessions, I wanted to be a stripper when I was six... obviously having no idea what a stripper was. I'm not sure what my exposure to it was but my sense was that they wore bathing suits all day. Obviously, I was wrong. Haha!

  34. I had my career all planned out.
    I was going to be a bus driver/ballerina/hair dresser.

    I'd drive the bus in my tutu cutting peoples hair as I drove to my studio to swap shifts with another bus driver/ballerina/hair dresser.

    I was so committed. Plans were drawn up for it all, I practiced by riding in those kids cars in tutus cutting Barbies hair. Made family take pictures of it and I stuck them up in my room for inspiration. The dream officially ended when I got in trouble for cutting a friends hair while doing my routine.

    Loving your collection of rings and the colour of your nails!

  35. Oooh! I also wanted to be in the circus at one point! Not as a hula hoop girl, but I was definitely practicing cartwheels in the garden all day long. Also I had the dream of running a restaurant. I took free napkins and plastic forks from places and thought that way I could run my whole business one day.

    Love the outfit btw :)

  42. Oh, I definitely wanted to be in the circus too. Preferably doing something that involved tigers or elephants. I also had a phase in which I dreamed of being a host on QVC...to the point that I would pick up random objects around the house and practice selling them to a pretend camera and studio audience.

    I would also play archaeologist all the time, finding sticks and rocks and making up stories about what they were used for in the past. Yup, I'm glad I went for that path in my adult life, rather than any of the others!
