Weekly Wears: Winter Dreams

I've been thinking about style a lot lately, and wondering where I fit into the style spectrum.  Sometimes I enjoy a really sweet girly frock, sometimes I dress straight out of the 90s, and I often take those 60s dresses out for a spin.  My closet is extremely varied these days, and I have been feeling a little insecure about it.  I mean, in the grand scheme of issues, this is really not one at all, but on the topic of clothing (because this is an outfit post, after all) I don't know who I am these days.

It wasn't until I read this post by Mandi yesterday that I really thought:  "Oh, yeah.  Who cares?"  She's absolutely right-- fashion is fun!  You should wear what you like, I should wear what I like.  Do we really need to conform to some rigid sense of style?  That post was the perfect reminder of why I dress the way I do: because I like it.  And that's it.  Sometimes you just need a little reminder.  :)

Dress: c/o Free People;  Tights: ASOS;  Shoes: Bali ELF;  Flower crown: handmade (during this post);  Lipstick: Tarino Tarantino c/o Emerging Thoughts

So... shout out to one of the loveliest dresses I've ever owned.  This dress is dreamier than dreamy and I've already been plotting out the different ways I can wear it.  Adding a denim jacket or some boots could dress it down for more of an everyday look.

One more thing:  I accidentally deleted about 12 comments that I meant to approve yesterday, so if you signed up for the NatureBox giveaway yesterday, check to make sure your comment went through.  Whoops!
I hope you all are having a great week so far!

  5. it seems to me that whichever style/era you're wearing you are always firmly planted in a general "you-ness" not everyone can say that!

I definitely switch it up a bit and experiment with clothes, and I'd say people still seem to know my big picture.

You have fun but you still definitely have a particular "look" or fashion identity :) and it's clearly awesome!

  10. Thanks so much for sharing! You've been a style icon for a lot of people, including me, and it's refreshing to hear that you too struggle with the "fashion" question. Anyway, keep wearing whatever you love... it inspires me!

  13. I'm so with you! Fashion is about having fun and there's no need to pick one style. Honestly, my style is SO all over the place. Some day's I'm super classic, then boho, then all vintage. Haha, but I dress based on my mood and I love that fashion helps me express that. Love this dress and your style, sweet Katie!! xoxo

  16. Ah this is so true! lately I've been having a hard time too. Sometimes I love the boho look, other days a high waisted vintage skirt and some days I like to look like a ski bum.

  17. I love that dress and those tights! so cute. I definitely agree: style should be meant for fun and not for a way to put yourself into a box (unless that's what you wanna do!). My wardrobe is everywhere as well, but I love it that way. It gives me the opportunity to express how I feel on THAT specific day and also combine fashion styles to make it what I want.

  21. I had been feeling the same about my own closet and style when I read mandi's post.
I guess some people just like diversity in their closets and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm sure both your daughters will appreciate it when they're old enough to start borrowing clothes. ;)

& this is such a gorgeous dress! it would definitely look cute with a denim jacket or vest. ooo. I love 90's style ;)

  22. I feel this way sometimes as well! Then I realize it's kinda cool having a wide range of style. Gives me something to pair with my wide range of moods.

I just recently made a flower crown, too. So fun!

  23. Beautiful dress. And I agree fashion should be fun. I dress to be comfortable and wear things I like, it doesn't matter the style or if they are trendy or not.

  29. You are so beautiful, a true style inspiration!

Along the same topic, my co-worker happened to notice my fingernails yesterday and actually said to me, "That's not how you're supposed to do it" because I have my pinky and ring finger one color, and the other three fingers on each hand another color.

I asked her what she meant and she said, "Well, this one is supposed to be the accent nail" pointing to whatever finger is in the official Nail Art Rule Book. I said to her, "Well, for me, it's all about having fun and breaking rules. Why think so much about it?" And that applies to fashion too! We should all just wear what makes us feel good about ourselves. And I think you're the perfect example of that!

  32. I have been eyeing this dress for weeks on Free People! I'm in a wedding in July in Hawaii and have been considering purchasing this as my bridesmaid dress, and am wondering if the sleeves will be too hot. Is the material relatively lightweight?

  33. That flower crown... that dress... those tights... I love everything about this outfit! Also... I wish I had your hair.

  34. i have those thoughts all the time. Honestly, my plan is to not buy clothes for a while. I feel like things I liked not even two years ago, are not my style anymore. All I know is I want to DECLUTTER, and I want minimalistic things. I need to get rid of things that don't go with anything else, etc.

  35. i completely agree with that sentiment. i always feel like i have two very strong, but sometimes conflicting senses of style…one side that's really bohemian & free-spirited with long dresses and floral crowns and neutral colors…and another that's very girly-girl & 60s colorful vintage…more structured. but i think sometimes trying to be so self-definitive about style can be stifling! i would rather dress like whatever character i feel like i am today…to dress for my mood, and then to heck with the rest of it. : )

and, by the way, this ensemble is an absolute dream. that crown! it's so perfectly editorial to go with a white, lacy frock that could go so, so many ways. any way that katie feels! : )

  36. I am in love on that dress! I too have no specific style category. My closet is a mix up of salvation army, thrift stores, forever 21 and target! haha Wearing what we like and what makes us happy is whats important! goldcoastdreams.blogger.com

  40. I've actually been having that problem as well, the "what is my style" problem. Mine sets on way earlier than yours does though. I'll be wandering around a store and think "oh, that's really cute, but I could never wear that" - then the logical part of my brain pipes up wondering why not and I never have a good answer for it. You're right, fashion is supposed to be fun. And I'm going to have to remember that. Also, I've always loved your style - I think you just need to come up with a name for it and then you'll be all set :)

  41. Ahh Katie, this is such a stunning look, and I love the headband.
I kinda feel the same. Today I'm mixing up pink and blacks and biker boots. Tomorrow, I'll get out my floral tea dress. I just like clothes ;)
