Man, it's been ages since I've done a "Currently". Here's a bit of what's been up lately:
Doing: Can I say everything? DIYing, fixing up my house like a crazy person, playing shows in our band every weekend, staying busy with homeschooling, working with some talented people on my blog redesign. This feels like an extra busy time in our life, so I have to make a conscious effort to step back from work and fit in the things in life that can be easily overlooked, like time with friends and just pausing for some good ol' fashioned dreaming.
Eating: We have a new favorite place to eat that's right down the road from our house and we probably eat there at least twice a week. Basically, we go there and eat balsamic on everything (fries, salad, falafel, whatever) because they have the best! Oh, and baseball's always on the tv, so Johnny's a happy camper.
Planning and Eagerly Anticipating: As you can see from the photo above, we FINALLY got our passports! Someone on IG said, "HAVE YOU NEVER BEEN OUT OF THE COUNTRY BEFORE??" The answer is "yes, we have" but to give you an idea of how long it's been, we didn't even have to have passports for where we were going (Puerto Vallarta). Honestly though, international travel hasn't been on our list of TO-DOs in quite a while. This year we are taking a trip with some friends and it's the first real grown-up vacation Johnny and I have taken together since Hope was born. And she's 11, so...
Listening: I'm a girl who gets in a weird obsessive mode with music. I've been listening to Rilo Kiley and Peter, Bjorn, & John nonstop on Pandora and Spotify. Though, I will say, Spotify has been my new best friend for finding new music lately. Thanks, Gowa, for prompting me to download it (again). ;) Some other things I've been enjoying: Land of Talk, The Elected, Cotton Jones, Le Loup, and The War on Drugs. Several of those have been recommendations from friends.
Learning: I've been sticking with my goal to learn the lap steel and that's been going pretty well. It helps that I play it on a few songs in our band, so I HAVE to keep getting better. Beyond that, in a life of making and teaching, you never stop learning. Learning to do something more efficiently, or learning a new technique... whatever it is, I'm grateful to constantly be pushed. And, speaking of making, I have a new DIY coming to ABM very soon... :)
Happy Wednesday, friends! I hope your week is good so far!
This post was originally inspired by Dani's "Currently" posts. I like that girl...
I will never grow tired of listening to Rilo Kiley. I've loved them since I was 14 and they're still my favorite band. I try so hard to listen to new music but it's a challenge! I'm stubborn, haha. Spotify definitely helps though. Have you ever listened to Boy? They have a catchy song called, "Little Numbers" that I keep listening to on repeat. <3
ReplyDeleteI've been in a weird obsessive mode with Rilo Kiley for years now. Still waiting for it to subside but I'm okay if it never does. Where are you going on your trip?? Traveling is so rewarding!
ReplyDeleteLove it! So excited to hear more about your trip and also your DIY. :)

Always love reading your blog! I find that Rilo Kiley is like a permanent staple in my music rotation...since I was like 15 lol or anything created from Jenny Lewis
ReplyDeleteHave you listened to any Polica or Purity Ring? A little more electronica but I feel like it would be in your interests.... also I am obsessed with First Aid Kit at the moment too.
ReplyDeleteYou two are the cutest. So great to hear you're planning a getaway! Happy Wednesday :)
ReplyDeleteI love Songza for finding new music and also for just putting some music on when I'm too lazy to decide what I want to listen to (haha). I pick a playlist and go. And congrats on your passports and the upcoming trip, so exciting.

Busy busy! It sounds like fun and inspiring kind of busy, the best kind! xx
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the passports!! My husband and I also aren't really able to take trips together because of our not-so-people-friendly dog, so I totally feel your pain! Seriously, 10 years together, 4 years married, and no honeymoon as of yet. Blerg. Hope you two have a blast on your trip!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome you like Rilo Kiley -- you've always reminded me of Jenny Lewis! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so exciting that you guys will be going on vacation! It does wonders.
